Cowes based SeaSafe have just taken delivery of a brand new van with striking livery and it’s sure to
become a familiar sight around the island. SeaSafe operate a unique lifejacket maintenance service with over 50 lifejacket servicing centres – Service Points – around the UK and currently seven of those are on the island, with locations in Cowes, Yarmouth and Bembridge.
The service couldn’t be easier to use: whether you have one, two or ten lifejackets that need servicing, all you need to do is drop them into one of the Service Points and SeaSafe arrange collection and return. With the investment in the new van SeaSafe say it means they can speed up the
service for their island based customers. And there are no delivery charges (unless the lifejackets are returned to a non Service Point address). Once received and inspected, SeaSafe will make contact with the lifejacket owner to explain what work was undertaken and the cost. The charge for service and certification is £9.95 plus any spare parts needed on inspection. However, if additional work is required to bring the lifejacket up to specification, SeaSafe will always call the customer first to seek their prior approval before the work is undertaken.
Jeremy Dale, Managing Director of SeaSafe, comments, “Superficially a lifejacket can look fine and appear in good condition but it could be hiding all kinds of defects. We have had lifejackets back here with heavily corroded CO2 gas bottles, loose or detached gas bottles, lungs that are damaged with rips, tears and holes, used and never re-armed lifejackets, operating mechanisms with missing parts and many other critical problems. The key thing to remember is that a lifejacket is only that if it works, and if it’s never been serviced or not regularly serviced then it really isn’t worth taking a chance – better to be safe and not sorry.
“We have seven Service Points on the island but aim to have more over the next year and with this in mind it made sense to purchase the new van so we can offer an improved, faster turnaround.”
